CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
BALLET 1
Intro to ballet structure, stretching and straightening exercises. French terminology is introduced. A perfect way to introduce your child to Ballet and begin building skills needed to advance through future levels.
JAZZ FUNK
An exciting blend of jazz and hip hop dance styles with focus on mobility, strength and alignment. Fun and funky choreography combining fluid, full-body jazz and hard-hitting funk and hip hop styles. Some dance or movement experience recommended, but adventurous beginners welcome!
BALLET 2 - 5
Stretching and straightening exercises. Barre work is introduced, musicality and balance coordination are emphasized as student progresses. Center floor work is introduced with focus on the positions of the arms, legs and feet using classical ballet vocabulary.
PRE-POINTE
Fundamentals of Pointe includes an evaluation to identify areas where the tudent needs works prior to and in preparation for Pointe class. Focus on leg straightness and strength, feet flexibility, strength, alignment, and shape, and ankle strength and straightness.
POINTE
Pointe work, standing on the tips of the toes while performing steps, is performed using hard–toed and stiff-shanked pointe shoes. It requires strength and skill and permission from the instructor. Two ballet classes and Pre-Pointe evaluation are required to begin Pointe.
LYRICAL
Contemporary dance styles with an emphasis on energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. A fine balance between ballet, modern dance, and jazz that is free-moving allowing the dancer to explore their technique in a creative manner.
JAZZ
A combination of classical ballet and modern dance with current forms of popular dance. It has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is about personal style and expression. This high energy class can be taught to anyone with a passion to move, so no dance experience is required. This class will introduce students to the basic vocabulary and style of hip hop movement.
TAP
The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies.
COMBO
A class that combines dance genres, from ballet, jazz, tap, tumbling, and creative movement will develop coordination and provide an understanding of various dance concepts and terminology, alignment, execution of movement and memorization through sequential tasking.
MUSICAL THEATER
Our MT Program is designed to educate, strengthen, and elevate young performers in our community by combining exercises and activities in singing, acting, and dancing to shape the talents of each student — empowering them to bring their skills to stages across the Cleveland area. Students practice solo and cast vocal exercises while gaining stage knowledge, improvisation skills and learning Broadway-style choreography.
HIIT/Groove
The HIIT portion consists of cross-training exercises designed specifically for a dancer's body. The Groove portion is designed to expose participants to different styles of dance to help broaden heir versatility. This class helps improve overall fitness and technique.
ADULT PILATES
Tone, strengthen, and improve agility while achieving a sense of peace and contentment. Certified Pilates instructor for adults only.
